Qualifying to practice medicine in other countries
Over the years, we have assisted many doctors in qualifying to practice medicine in Australia as well as overseas. Foreign doctors who had overseas qualifications and wanted to practice medicine in Australia had to submit their qualifications and credentials for assessment in the United States, and even with the change of assessment regime, we have also assisted doctors in submitting applications to the Australian Medical Council for assessment.
We have also seen more and more local doctors apply for positions overseas and in those cases, they need to have their documents notarised and their signatures witnessed by our notary public. We often help doctors who are looking to move to the America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia to live, work or undergo a fellowship elsewhere.
In all cases, having foreign qualifications recognised in Australia or having Australian qualifications recognised overseas requires evidence of those qualifications (ie, the certificates) to be notarised, and possibly stamped with an authentication or an apostille from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. If authenticated, you may also need to obtain a further authentication from the foreign office of the intended destination country.
We can arrange for all of this to be completed on your behalf, which is especially important if you are busy with your own practice and save the time and avoid the hassle of doing it yourself.
[EDIT] We can only assist you with notarising your qualifications if your qualifications were issued by an Australian university or college. If your qualifications were issued by a foreign university or college, you would need to approach a notary public in that country to notarise your qualifications.
If you are applying for recognition through Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPIC) / Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), the EPIC Identification Form (EIF) is required by ECFMG to confirm your identity. You must have a valid EIF on file to upload credentials to EPIC and to request verification reports for your verified credentials. Your EIF will be available as a downloadable PDF file which includes your name, gender, date of birth, photograph, and passport. Your EIF must be notarised and returned to ECFMG within 6 months.
