TikTok and Facebook among social media companies asked to front inquiry into foreign interference in Australia
Is foreign interference through social media a real concern for national security? Of course these are important questions, but it also requires senators to understand social media, how it works, and the inherent risks for users using social media. The last time Facebook fronted a senate committee it was painfully obvious that many of the senators didn’t understand Facebook (or the internet for that matter) and because they didn’t understand, they weren’t able to ask the right questions (or questions that actually made sense). Let’s hope it doesn’t happen here…
Social media companies have been called on to appear before a Senate inquiry examining the threat of foreign interference conducted through their platforms.
