Donald Trump bans TikTok transactions in move to block Chinese-run app

Does anyone else see something fundamentally wrong with this? The concerns surrounding TikTok has been the alleged Chinese government intervention/influence and the threat to national security. Isn’t it ironic that the US government is basically forcing TikTok to be sold, probably to a US company like Microsoft, AND it wants to receive payment for its intervention? Despite having original concerns, fortunately Australia has not continued to follow the US.

How does the information collected by TikTok differ from what other companies like Google, Apple or Microsoft collect? Is the only difference that they are not (currently) owned by the Chinese?
