‘Identity is key’: New birth certificates allow NSW kids to include both birth and adoptive parents

What do you think of the new ‘Integrated Birth Certificate’?

Changes to the Adoption Act and the Births, Deaths and Marriages Act means newly adopted people will be issued with an IBC along with the existing post adoptive birth certificate that is provided after adoption. Both will be legal identity documents, allowing the adopted person to use whichever one they prefer.

Children like three-year-old Christian, who lives in Western Sydney, will be able to choose who they want on their birth certificates, thanks to a change in the law.
