Bid to lure ‘thousands’ of New Zealanders to Australia for farm and hospitality work

If Australians aren’t prepared to pick fruit, maybe New Zealanders are? Regardless of who does it, it’s clear that our economy actually needs it…

… but how much better for Australia and Australians if those people who have had trouble seeking employment (generally or as a result of the pandemic) could be mobilised whether individually motivated or as a condition of receiving unemployment benefits (ie, work for the dole schemes) to service this industry for their own benefit as well as the wider community. Yes.
Federal trade and tourism minister Simon Birmingham says he hopes “thousands of Kiwis” cross the Tasman to work in hospitality and on Australian farms, but not everyone shares his optimism.
