Trust – The Most Important Element in Surrogacy

I touched on trust when I spoke at Surrogacy Australia’s Seminar in August. I believe that trust is a critical, unspoken part of the surrogacy regime in New South Wales.

As a surrogacy arrangement is non-binding, it shouldn’t be treated as if it’s a contract.Trust becomes the most important part of the arrangement. You need to rely on the other party to the arrangement. You need to rely on them to carry your child, and you need to rely on them to go through the process with you – together. You need to trust them for your own peace of mind. You need to trust them because quite likely they will be part of your child’s future.

Because trust is so important it’s critical to find a surrogate which you can connect with. Some of our clients have family members assist. Some of our clients have close friends help them out. Some of our clients have reached out online, and sought the help of surrogates who wish to assist, out of the kindness of their own hearts. Unfortunately these are a small minority – it’s difficult to build a trusting relationship with a stranger in such a short amount of time.

But once you’ve established that trust – well then, that’s a different story. A trusted party quickly becomes a good companion in your journey towards expanding your family, after all.
